Teaching

“Thank you and thank you for your great teaching of him. We’re amazed at how far he seems to have come in just a half term!”

Lizzy De Simone – Parent at Wigginton Primary

“I learn the Electric Guitar with Jonny who is an amazing teacher.  I have passed my grade 3 with a distinction and am now working on my grade 4.  I enjoy working with the band at Learn to Rock as we learn lots of new things like song writing and improvisation and how to play well as a band. There are also lots of performing opportunities at the concerts we do and the big gigs we do as well.  The feeling of playing with other band members is great.”
Matthew Hall, Electric Guitarist with ‘Ark Eye’ aged 12, Learn to Rock student, Ilkley

“Jonny is an exceptional classical and rock musician who combines his ability with remarkable patience when teaching. No matter how daft the question he is always able to explain / demonstrate the answer. Most importantly lessons are always conducted in a friendly and fun manner guaranteeing the best outcome for both of us. Many thanks for what is always a highlight of my week.”
Dr Dominic Baron – Adult student

“I can’t believe the things he can do at 11-years-old! Your teaching has clearly worked amazingly well.”Greg -Parent of Learn to Rock Saturday school student and member of the 11-13 age group band.

“I feel my playing has come on leaps and bounds over the nine months since beginning lessons with Jonny. Fantastic.” Paul Moore – Adult student

“Band is brilliant because we are taught by Jonny who is an amazing guitarist who helps us to make our own songs.  Me and the other boys in the band like it so much we always get together on weekends at my house to practice what we learn in band.”

Jack Hendy, Learn to Rock Drummer with ‘Ark Eye’ aged 12, Ilkley

Session

Thanks for stepping in to dep for my usual guitarist to play for the Gates Academy promotion. Great job. – Gareth Gates

“We needed a guitarist last-minute and Jonny absolutely knocked it out of the park. Not only was he quick to learn in rehearsals, but he was super friendly to work with and plays a killer solo! Thanks again, Jonny!” -Joshua Burnell (Psychedelic folk artist).

“Big thanks to Jonny for accompanying me tonight” – Shawna Mitcheson – professional vocalist.

“Jonny not only has one of the most proficient and eclectic range of guitar skills I have encountered, but he also has the creative empathy to know how and where to place those skills in a song, with little or no prompting. He is an artist and craftsman in equal measure, and a pleasure to work with.” – Dan McGlade Le Neon Noir.

“The second track – “Better than me” – is a full-on rock ballad but with an 80’s drum machine … one that builds towards the fuller sound of guitar / keys. As before there is a creative use of dynamics with periods of less balancing the periods of more. It really is a delightful track, more an extension of existing balladry than a replacement. Think a progressive evolution rather than revolution, especially when the guitar solo begins … an earnest, heartfelt, soulful, bluesy solo.”

““Fragile” a beautiful, searing  prog rock track with echoes of Yes and Dream Theater’s John Petrucci followed by “El Sistema” a fabulous Latin fusion track, bright and breezy.” – Easingwold advertiser
